Vendor Biography

Sergey Gaidar was born on May 28, 1970, in Kremenchuk, Poltava region. Although he has been painting for only the past 20 years, he dedicates all his free time to honing his God-given talent. Having never attended any formal art school, Sergey’s journey has been one of perseverance and self-discovery.

As a child, Sergey enjoyed drawing but never went beyond using pencils. Years later, a friend gifted him high-quality pastel paper, encouraging him to try colors. Intrigued, Sergey bought soft pastels and was captivated. His passion deepened when he transitioned to painting with brushes and canvases, inspired by the potential he saw in colors compared to pastels.

Initially, Sergey’s work did not meet his expectations, leading to thoughts of giving up. The cost of materials forced him to improvise by painting on cardboard. Selling his early paintings felt wrong due to his self-perceived lack of skill, but he found joy in gifting them to those who appreciated his work.

A pivotal moment came when a friend, Max, introduced Sergey to Nikolay Tikhonovich, the director of an artist’s workshop. Although Sergey didn’t get the studio he hoped for, the encounter changed his life. Tikhonovich praised Sergey’s work for its originality, free from academic constraints, likening him to a “new flower.” This validation fueled Sergey’s confidence and determination.

Sergey continued to develop his unique style, drawing inspiration from the great masters who also lacked formal training. Despite the challenges, he participated in group exhibitions and received offers for solo shows but often sold his work to avoid working other jobs. Sergey believes everything happens in God’s timing and prefers to let events unfold naturally, maintaining his artistic integrity and freedom.

Sergey’s approach to life and art is guided by patience and faith, avoiding the rush for attention and commercial success. He trusts that true and lasting achievements come from divine guidance rather than personal effort. This philosophy allows him to live authentically and create art that resonates deeply with both him and his audience.
